Prep: 5 Minutes / Activity Time: 5 Minutes

Fine motor skills are developed when your infant practices coordinated muscle movements using her hands. Between 6 and 11 months, she will become better at using her thumb and forefinger (pincer grasp) to pick up small objects. This activity will give your baby some fun practice using her pincer grasp to get the yummy reward!

  • cereal (like Cheerios)
  • ice cube tray

Step 1: Place a piece of cereal in each section of an empty ice cube tray.

Step 2: Put the ice cube tray on your baby’s high chair tray. Encourage her to use a two-fingered pinch to pick up and eat each piece of cereal.   (Introduce the ice cube tray only after your baby is quite successful with picking up cereal pieces when placed on the tray of her high chair.)
