Before, During and After Reading

Oral Language

Introduce the new images and words featured on the front of the book. Maybe your baby has never seen a picture of a bear. Explain to her what a bear is and the sound a bear makes.

Phonological Awareness

Many words in this book are nonsense words that describe a sound. Read the words and make the sounds. Act out the actions in the story when you can.

Oral Language

Go on a bear or stuffed animal hunt! Gather and hide all of your baby’s plush animals (teddy bears work especially well) in familiar places throughout your home. Then, hold your baby and walk about through the house to ‘hunt’ for the animals. As you are walking, recall the repetitive phrases in the book and use them as you are looking for the animals.
