Toddlers love to use a shovel and dig in the sand. Why not make it a fun learning activity by letting them dig for letters?
- sandbox with sand
- foam or plastic alphabet letters
- toy plastic shovel or spoon
Step 1: Hide three to four letters in the sandbox using letters in your toddler’s first name.
Step 2: Give your toddler a shovel or spoon and ask him to find the letters hidden in the sand.
Step 3: When he finds a letter you might say:
“Look, Max! You found the letter M. Your name begins with M. M for Max! Can you say M?”
Step 4: Let your toddler explore and play with the letters and sand.
