You might be interested in letting your toddler start drawing. But you may ask, How do I start? Children learn best through modeling. In this activity, you will tell your toddler a story while you illustrate. Use your imagination. The sky is the limit!
- paper
- crayons
Step 1: Get some paper and crayons. Invite your toddler onto your lap.
Step 2: Make up a story and tell it to your toddler, illustrating it as you go. It might be a story about your family, or a story about a recent experience like a trip to the beach or a farm. It might be about your toddler’s favorite topic of the day, like vehicles or princesses. It does not matter if you think you are not an artist. What is important is that you are modeling the act of drawing for your child.
Step 3: You can give your toddler a crayon and paper and see what he will do with it. You may need to show him how to hold the crayon and make marks. Then let him experiment with marking and drawing.
