Within the first few months, your baby will develop the ability to focus on an object and track the motion of the object from left to right. As your baby grows, this awareness to details will help your baby focus on pictures, letters and words in books.
Several of your child’s favorite toys
Step 1: Hold a brightly colored toy about 8 to 12 inches from the front of your baby’s face.
Step 2: Move the toy to the left and then to the right.
Step 3: Watch your baby’s eyes to see if she is following or tracking the movement of the toy.
