Infants enjoy listening to the sounds and rhythm of language and focus more on the sounds and words of their home language. Support your baby’s use of language by talking to, reading and singing in your home language.
Step 1: Do you remember stories and songs that you learned as a very young child? Maybe there is a favorite song or nursery rhyme that your mother (father, grandmother, grandfather) sang to you over and over. Think back to the past and tell your infant stories and sing songs from your own culture and language.
Step 2: Tell your infant simple family stories about things that happened when you were a young child.
Step 3: Read books that support your family’s cultural traditions.
