Playing with shapes prepares your baby for future letter learning. Discovering and exploring curves, lines, sticks and corners will pave the way for eventually recognizing and remembering letter shapes.
- sponges
- shoebox
Step 1: Cut the sponges into large circles, squares and triangles. Create a shape sorter game by cutting three openings in the top of a shoe box to match the three sponge shapes.
Step 2: Talk about shapes as you play together. Is the shape round or straight? Is it smooth or pointy? Let your baby hold, touch and feel the shapes.
Step 3: Show your baby how to match the shapes to the correct opening. Give your baby time to explore and play with the shapes.
