There is power in an infant’s smile! When you walk into a room and your baby smiles at you, it can make you stop in your tracks. It makes you excited to see your baby’s interest in you. When you enter into an interactive verbal “dance” with your baby, you show him just how important he is to you.

Step 1: During your infant’s caregiving routines or at other times when he is alert, go face-to-face with him as you talk, sing, laugh and smile.
Step 2: Watch for the effect this has on your little one. Does he smile? Does he gaze at your eyes? Does he start to wiggle and move?
Step 3: Talk about what you see your baby doing as you enter into an interactive verbal “dance” with him.
